Liam Coleman breaks new ground in his second release for Inner Ocean, pushing his dense, exploratory sound to its very limits with ‘Blackbird’ – an extended drone workout that folds traditional acoustic instrumentation into his customary wall-of-sound production.

After a day’s field recording in the woods near his home in Leeds, Coleman focused his thinking on the travels of a blackbird and set about capturing that journey in sound. With the palette-widening inclusion of acoustic guitars and found sounds adding a humanistic sheen to his profoundly mechanised soundworld, the resulting 24-minute piece represents a confident step forward in ambition and scope for the artist.

With the five sections that make up 'Blackbird' running the spectrum from pastoral ambience to distorted drone it's an intense and hypnotic composition and certainly the definitive statement from Lcoma thus far.
